The Yazma Story
“The finest and the most beautiful carpets are made here and rich fabric of red and other colors are woven here.”
— Marco Polo
I grew up in Istanbul surrounded by beauty, at the fabled heart of artisan weaving. Today, the lush, finely detailed silk or wool knots of traditional handwoven Turkish rugs remain an integral part of life and a source of national pride. Through images and motifs, they tell stories old and new. Female elders in my family pass along a lifetime’s worth of skills and stories. And in their designs, the younger generation maintains the traditions of beauty and luxury.
In the Anatolia region of Turkey, I learned that life should be a journey, and to enjoy the best of what the world has to offer—a perspective that inspired my move to the United States. When it came time to decorate my home here in Atlanta, however, I found little of the beauty, quality, and craft I’d grown up with. What if I could combine this passion with my familial connections to Turkish rug merchants and a commitment to supporting the work of female artisans?
These strands come together today in Yazma, as I bring the finest handcrafted rugs and textiles to those who value their unique beauty and craftsmanship.
I look forward to working with you.
